What tasks have you completed recently? - Recently we preformed a lab about atomic structure and electromagnetic reaction, it was a flame test. we also completed a Pogil about electron configurations. What have you recently learned? - I learned about electron configurations and all the rules associated with them, and why different elements emit different light when exposed to flame. The electrons reached an "excited" state and then fall back to a ground state that's what creates light. What are you planning to do to improve your understanding? -I plan on continuing to pay attention in class and keep practicing making electron configurations.

Exploring Reactivity and Periodicity

The guiding question for this lab is Is reactivity a periodic property? We were trying to answer this to gain a better understanding on how the elements are arranged in the periodic table and find if reactivity was a periodic or quasi-periodic property. During our experiment we carried out reactions between various elements and water, we then recorded all of our results in a table. Our claim was Yes, Reactivity is a periodic property.  Our evidence is below. Exploring Atomic Structure & Electromagnetic Radiation

The Guiding Question we were trying to answer was What are the identities of the unkno wn substan ces? We were trying to find the unknown substances based upon a flame test and the emissions of the other seven known solutions. During the investigation we were given seven different toothpicks that were soaked in different ions of chloride, one by one we stuck it into the inner flame of the Bunsen burner and observed and recorded what colour of light the flame produced. Our claim was The unknowns were 1-Lithium, 2-Strontium, 3-Barium, 4-Sodium. Our evidence for this is below. Exploring Changes in Matter

The purpose of this lab was to tell see and be able to discern the difference between Changes in Matter and tell whether they are physical or chemical changes. We ran several different experiments to gain our information. During our investigation we experimented with 1st- H20 and table salt mixed. 2nd- a small wad of copper was heated. 3rd- 5 drops of  sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and 5 drops of copper nitrate (Cu(NO3)2) mixed. 4th- 5 drops of hydrochloric acid (HCI) are added to 2g of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). 5th- Paraffin wax is subjected to heat in a hot water bath. We ran these different experiments to get practice at knowing whether something is physical or chemical. 1) What tasks have you completed recently? - Recently I performed a density lab in which you weigh pennies and put them in order by date, then put them in a graduated cylinder with 30ml of water by 2s and measure the difference of volume to find their density. I also performed a activity where your task was to find the thickness of aluminium foil. In order to do so you had to measure the length and width of the foil and then weigh it. After recording those results I calculated the area, volume, and then find the thickness. 2) What have you learned recently? - Recently I've learned many things. I learned how to find the density of an object by using water levels to see the amount of displacement that certain object creates. You just subtract the difference of volume by your initial volume. I also learned more about Significant digits and what rules apply to how many Sig digs you keep. If you are multiplying something you can only keep your lowest amount of Sig digs so for example...

Exploring Measurement in the Food Industry

Our task for this lab was to collect mass information about various bags of Cheetos and use our data to determine the accuracy and precision of the bags. The purpose of this lab was to answer the guiding question, "Do you get what you pay for?". In this lab we used accuracy and precision to determine whether or not you get your money's worth when buying a small bag of Cheetos. On the packaging the bag states it's net weight is 28.3 grams. We used four different Cheetos bags to gather information. The first step was to find accuracy. Accuracy is defined as the net weight of 28.3g +/- .10g. We weighed the full bags of Cheetos separately and recorded the results, this is the gross weight. We then emptied the contents of the bags and weighed the packaging and recorded those results, this is the tare weight.
